Hi,

What are different types of encodings possible in POST/GET arguments? I believe UTF-8, Hex, %U, full width encodings are possible. What about UTF-7, UTF-16 and UTF-32? Does PHPIDS decode before searching for patterns in rules?

Thanks for any help
Surya

Yes, we convert everything to UTF-8 before running the tests. Does that answer your question?

Hi!

UTF-16 and UTF-32 are not supported (yet) because the usage is pretty uncommon. Or did you make differing experiences? What do you guys think?

It looks like Apache Server supports only ASCII and UTF-8
IIS Server seems to support ASCII, UTF-8, %u, % and full-width decoding of URI and POST/GET arguments and values.

I was told that some servers do support UTF-16, but I don't have names.

In any case, it is good to know that PHP IDS has decoding capabilities for many of them.

Thank you for the inputs
